Au Pairs and nannies and housekeepers. Oh my!

We know every family is different and choosing the right childcare options can be a tough. Along with wanting the very best for your children and trying to find the best fit for your household, there are also costs to take in to account. You may have come to the decision during lockdown that live-in childcare may be a new option? Having spoken to some prospective nanny clients recently, I know that different job titles can be confusing… COREcruitment is here to help!

Au Pair- An Au Pair is often a younger, unqualified home help that will have some childcare experience. They are likely to be in the UK to improve their English, will often work temporary summer positions and are regularly flexible to take on a range of childcare and housekeeping duties. You do not need to deal with their Tax and national insurance, as they are more of a live-in big sister/brother, this does however mean that you cannot use childcare vouchers.

Nanny- These candidates are available to live in with you or visit your house daily. They are often experienced and trained in providing childcare for younger children or those with special needs. Nannies are less flexible to take on cleaning duties for the whole house, but will deal with children’s laundry and tidying. A nanny is great for children that are at home during the day. They have excellent understanding of child development and education and should be registered as child carers meaning you can use childcare vouchers. You will be expected to pay their tax and national insurance, there are several companies we can direct you to that will assist with this.

Nanny Housekeeper- Again nanny housekeepers will either live in with the family or visit on a daily basis. They are better suited to families with children in school so they can take on full housekeeping duties for the family during school hours. Nanny Housekeepers are great all rounders but not all will be able to assist children with homework. As with Nannies you would need to arrange the employees tax and national insurance.

Daily nannies and nanny housekeepers may do part time hours, or you may be able to arrange a ‘nanny share’ with a friend or neighbour to save money. If you would like more information please get in touch, we are happy to chat about your needs and help you find the best solution for your family!
