We all love the hospitality and leisure sector - the people, the travel, the energy of working in a sector that is all about people and service.
I myself have worked within the hotel and restaurant sectors for years in sales and operations positions before moving into recruitment.
When COREcruitment started out, we focused exclusively on hospitality, seven years into running the business we did a “tracking” of our top candidates and where they were moving to. We noted that there was a lot of movement to sectors such as leisure, fitness, retail and property FM. Five years on we have specialist divisions within those sectors, not only moving candidates from hospitality over, but also with established networks within those sectors themselves.
Hospitality, leisure and retail as sectors have similar challenges:
- A high proportion of front-line minimum wage - level labour
- Fluctuations in consumer confidence directly affect the market
- Long / Anti-social working hours
- Pay / Bonus levels can be challenging
COREcruitment is often approached by organisations outside of our sectors as a method of “tapping into” this highly skilled labour market at mid and senior level.
Some examples of companies we have assisted:
Global Pharmaceutical company: We placed a hospitality professional to evaluate, conceptualise and execute a plan to improve all customer “touch point” areas across an international estate, looking at everything from telephony, customer recognition, hospitality and wellness.
UK Media and Retail Business: Two main areas of support. Firstly attracting a diverse portfolio of candidates to work within the technical part of their business (field based, customer service roles). We also assisted with attracting large numbers of candidates for their business development and account management teams from pub/bar/restaurant backgrounds.
International Members Club: We used our international network of chefs to source candidates with European ancestry passports to work in their UK Operations. We successfully placed chefs from Canada, South Africa and New Zealand.
European Division of International Car Rental Business: Attracting candidates who can manage large multi-site operations with a strong understanding of revenue, availability and seasonality. Candidates who have strong skills around labour scheduling, customer service, repeat business, up-selling programmes and remote site management. Several Mid-senior level appointments were made.
Residential Care Operator: Non-clinical roles looking at guest experience, providing a five-star service proposition across private and public areas. Studies in this sector show that an active and social environment improves the quality of life in later life. We look to place mid-senior management with this business who can build communities and also manage the care process through the customer and patient journey.
Global Tech Company: CORE placed several candidates in Europe, North America and Asia with a fast growth business. These hires were across HR, Finance and Marketing and focused on candidates who were highly adaptive, resilient and able to work within a changeable structure. Candidates were identified from fast growth businesses who had produced excellent results with limited resources.
