CASE STUDY: ROOFTOP CINEMA CLUB

CASE STUDY

Client:  ROOFTOP CINEMA CLUB

Position:  Director of Real Estate - U.S.A.

Rooftop Cinema Club (RCC) is a one-of-a-kind, unique, beautiful, outdoor cinema experience with locations in the UK and USA.

RCC started back in 2011 with a single rooftop in London, founded by Gerry Cottle who comes from an incredible entertainment background. Nowadays they have 9 incredible venues across both countries and have 20 new venues projected in the next 3 years for the US.

RCC’s growth is aggressive and very exciting.

THE PROJECT:

With this growth in progress, RCC approached us to find a Director of Real Estate who can not only assist with their expansion but someone who was hungry, proactive and could close deals and get it done.

RCC wanted someone who had worked for a growing brand and who had been very hands on with helping a brand expand geographically.

Someone who had great relationships with brokers, could negotiate leases confidentially and someone who would also fit in with their close-knit team.

Gerry came to our North American team as he had previously worked with our team in the UK and knew we were experts in the hospitality industry.

OUR APPROACH:

The first step for us was to think about brands that had been in a similar situation as RCC, being industry experts there were a few brands that came to mind pretty quickly.

After reaching out to some of our contacts we started building a shortlist consisting of suitable candidates sourced from these brands, referrals from senior clients and candidates we had worked with before from our database.

We were also pretty lucky in that we had worked on a role very similar 2 months prior so we already had a number of candidates shortlisted that we knew would be suitable.

Once we had our extensive shortlist, we started our screening process with each candidate.

Our first step is to go in depth with the candidate on their experience, background, where they want to go next, what’s important to them in terms of job, company, etc.

Before discussing any role with a candidate, we need to understand them in more detail to make sure it’s the right fit from their end.

After this we refine our shortlist further, ensuring we have potential matches from both sides. This is when we introduce the company and role to the candidate.

It’s important for us to go into detail about the position’s responsibilities, goals and expectations as well as detail on the company culture, management team, structure and benefits.

From here we refine our shortlist even further before sending potential candidates to the client.

Once going through all candidates with the client, we helped facilitate interviews via Zoom.

This process had a few steps with a few people involved so COREcruitment made it as seamless as possible for our client by coordinating both sides and slotting into diaries for everyone involved.

Once the interview process was complete and the client had honed in their top candidate, COREcruitment conducted a few references from the candidates previous line managers.

THE RESULTS

After successful references were collected, an offer was made, and the rest is history.

We’re so excited to not only watch RCC grow but to see Aly Dean play an important part in the process.

A word from Gerry:

‘With 9 sell out venues across 5 states in America, Rooftop is now poised for even further growth. Our use is alternative and we have been looking for a talented Head of Real Estate Development to help tell our brand story to landlords, brokers and City officials alike.

I just wish I had spoken to COREcruitment many months ago. We tasked them with finding us a ‘Rock Star’ and they did just that.

The brief was brilliantly executed and we were amazed by the quality of candidates they put in front of us. The whole process was a pleasure which is not always the case.

I will be going to Core for all our recruitment needs going forward. Our motto here at Rooftop is Love, Peace and Great Film. For this it should be Love, Peace and Great Recruitment.

 Thanks Core!’
