To celebrate International Women’s Day 2022, Krishnan interviews Hannah Lopez, Head of Marketing - BOLAY RESTAURANTS
What does IWD mean to you?
A day to bring awareness of women in leadership and inspire others.
Why haven't we achieved equality, despite legislation in place regarding pay?
I believe that what gets talked about gets done. The more we push and discuss openly the more awareness it brings, especially with our direct reports and growth and development teams. Don't shy away from what you know is fair for your hard work and if they don't value your time then stop wasting it.
How would you advise young women leaders on how to build confidence in their ability as a manager and leader?
Have the courage to have uncomfortable conversations. When you learn how to rid the awkwardness of touch-talks you lean into the full potential of the person you are trying to lead. Ask questions, a lot of them. Workout that curious muscle and know that with the right team in your corner you can accomplish anything.
What initiatives should companies invest in to promote women in leadership and an inclusive workplace?
Create a culture of feedback and open/honest conversation. Having a clearly defined clear path is crucial to understanding where you fit into the company's bigger picture.
Is there a particular leader/figure you look up to?
Brené Brown and Emily Heyward
What advice will you give to your younger self?
Learn to say no and understand that boundaries are needed in every facet of life. Business is tough but leadership is kind, don't let the old bureaucratic ways of the corporate world fog your vision and know that your energy goes where intention flows.
