Through the CORE Leadership Series, we share the stories, insights, and journeys of inspiring industry leaders worldwide.
In this interview, we are speaking to Executive Housekeeper and Hospitality Leader, Brincly Rodrigo.
Could you briefly introduce yourself, your role and the core mission of your organisation within the landscape?
I am a hospitality professional with over 30 years of experience in luxury resorts and full-service hotels across the Asia Pacific and Canada.
I currently serve as Executive Housekeeper, leading housekeeping operations, guest experience standards, and team development.
My mission has always been to deliver operational excellence while creating environments where both guests and employees feel valued, safe, and respected.
What initially inspired you to pursue this career?
I was drawn to hospitality because it blends service, leadership, and operational strategy.
Early in my career, I realised that behind every memorable guest experience is a disciplined and motivated team. That inspired me to grow within operations and leadership.
What motivates you in your work, and what do you find most fulfilling about being a business leader?
Developing people motivates me the most. Seeing a room attendant grow into a supervisor or department head is deeply fulfilling.
Operational success is important, but sustainable success comes from strong teams, culture, and leadership consistency.
What do you see as the most significant challenges and opportunities currently shaping the service industry?
Labour shortages, cost pressures, and evolving guest expectations are major challenges. Guests now expect both efficiency and personalised experiences.
The opportunity lies in investing in training, digital systems, and sustainable practices that enhance both service quality and operational efficiency.
How has your leadership philosophy evolved over the past few years of rapid change?
In recent years, I have shifted from being task-focused to people-focused. Operational results are achieved through engagement, empathy, and clear communication.
Resilience, adaptability, and emotional intelligence have become essential leadership traits.
How do you balance commercial performance with staff wellbeing and culture building?
Strong culture drives performance. I focus on structured training, open communication, and recognition systems. When employees feel respected and supported, productivity naturally improves.
We monitor costs carefully, but we never compromise on safety, cleanliness standards, or employee wellbeing.
Sustainability is a growing priority. How are you embedding long-term sustainability practices into your business?
In housekeeping, sustainability begins with chemical management, linen reuse programs, waste reduction, and energy-efficient practices.
We educate staff on environmental responsibility and encourage guests to participate through simple but meaningful initiatives.
What skills or mindsets will be most important for the next generation of leaders?
Future leaders must be adaptable, technologically aware, culturally intelligent, and people centric.
The ability to lead diverse teams while managing data-driven operations will distinguish successful leaders.
What is the most important leadership lesson you’ve learned?
Consistency builds trust. Teams perform best when expectations are clear and leaders lead by example.
Leadership is not about authority. It is about accountability and service to your team.
What advice would you give emerging leaders who want to shape the future?
Invest in your people skills as much as your technical skills.
Stay curious, seek mentors, embrace challenges, and never underestimate the power of humility in leadership.
