To celebrate International Women’s Day & Women’s History Month, Krishnan asked a few questions to Aditi Kenjalkar, Curated Experience Lead / CRES and Location Strategy – ISS
What does IWD mean to you?
IWD is about celebrating the power of women. It shines a spotlight on the many inspirational and motivational stories, which ultimately empower us, as women and girls, to achieve our full potential. It is a day to remind us to look beyond our borders, our bodies and race, and to think about how we can make future progress daily and make a difference.
Why haven't we achieved equality, despite legislation in place regarding pay?
There needs to be a conscious mind shift. Even though it’s the right thing to do, for years companies have been habitual with the past trends. There needs to be a conscious effort made towards ensuring women are paid equal.
How would you advise young women leaders on how to build confidence in their ability as a manager and leader?
Be yourself and be proud of who you are and what you are. As a leader, your team sees that you are comfortable in your own skin. They all get confidence in following you and trusting your decisions.
What advice would you give to the next generation of female leaders? I truly believe that when women support each other incredible things happen. Support women, have faith, and be the change you want to see.
What initiatives should companies invest in to promote women in leadership?
Have development programs for women in leadership roles, coaching sessions and conduct seminars where women leaders can come together celebrate each other and inspire each other.
Is there a particular leader you look up to? Sheryl Sandberg from Facebook
Do women in our sector have a hard time getting promoted?
Yes.
If you could choose one recommendation for HR leaders to help promote women in the workplace, what would it be?
Give women a chance, they will surprise you with what great leaders they can be. They bring unconventional leadership skills which would impact the success of your organisation.
How are you paying it forward?
I try my level best to promote talent within my own team or when I spot one. Whenever and wherever I can contribute in whatever terms I do, to ensure women get their opportunity to shine
What advice would you give your younger self?
Have faith and keep going, things are going to get better and change for the better in this world.
