Sixes cricket club is an energetic, thrilling, social experience where the age-old game of cricket is enjoyed in a fun, adrenalin filled, hospitable space. Craft cocktails, beers and sharing plates are offered and friendly competitions among teams are encouraged!
Since the launch in 2020, Calum Mackinnon the co-founder of Sixes Cricket club has successfully opened 7 locations in the UK and has announced exciting expansion plans for the US, starting with Dallas, Texas! He is confident that Sixes will become a staple of the Dallas community and turned to COREcruitment to team up and assist with the recruitment at the new location.
CORE’s Project:
We were tasked to find a General Manager who has knowledge and experience working in the Dallas market. This individual needed to have drive, be proactive and be the ‘feet on the ground’ and represent the team for the US. Sixes wanted someone who had worked for multiple outlets with a growing brand and someone who would not be afraid to get their hands dirty. Someone who had great relationships with vendors, could negotiate business confidentially and be a vital asset in the expansion of the group geographically.
This search started as a private and confidential role due to the Sixes team wanting to strategically plan the announcement alongside an event in the US. We find a lot of our clients coming to us with these types of roles in which we are more than happy to cater too.
CORE’s Approach:
The first step was to utilize our existing contacts through our database. We used the brief to think of competitor brands and contact candidates that would suit the job requirements and role. We also have lots of success through referrals from senior clients and candidates so even if candidates are not actively looking themselves, we are lucky enough to connect other talent and build our database.
Second step was to post the job on all major job boards and of course our website where we have a large global following ensuring the ad was kept vague enough but still enticing, keeping in mind this was a confidential role. Once a collection of eligible candidates had been put together – we call this the ‘shortlist’ the screening process can begin.
We offer a very thorough three step screening process where we will discuss technical ability, if they are a good culture fit and motivation. Before discussing any role with a candidate, we need to understand them in more detail to make sure it’s the right fit from their end along with the expectations of the client. We then selected a shortlist of candidates who ‘ticked all the boxes’ and presented the resume and notes from the screen call to the client. Once the team at Sixes had shown interest in pursuing an interview with an individual we would go back and introduce the company and role to the candidate covering in detail about the position’s responsibilities, goals, and expectations as well as detail on the company culture, management team, structure and benefits. – The order was only done this way as the role was private and confidential.
We then moved onto interviews. As the client was based in the UK, we took the lead to work around schedules and time zones to ensure a stress free, seamless set up of zoom calls with various members of the Sixes team. Once the interview process was complete, we conducted two reference checks from the candidates’ previous managers to have on file and present to the team.
Calum from Sixes was delighted to fly over to the new Dallas location and make the announcement of the new opening and meet Mike in-person to offer him the position of General Manger!
We are very excited to be a part of this process at Sixes Cricket Club and watch the company grow and succeed with the leadership of Mike Lestingi on the team – we wish you all the best in your new adventure!
